Believe it or not, today (13 April) marks 21 years since Kylie Minogue released one of the greatest - and most underrated - singles of her career; the fantastic ‘Finer Feelings’.
Accompanied by a stunning monochrome music video shot in Paris, the Brothers In Rhythm remix served as the final cut from Kylie’s fourth studio album ‘Let’s Get To It’ and indeed her final release under PWL who launched her singing career in 1987.
Despite the album’s disappointing chart performance - it remains her lowest charting to date in both Australia and the UK - it gave Kylie room to dabble with different musical styles, hone her songwriting skills and showcased that Mike Stock and Pete Waterman (who wrote ‘Finer Feelings’) are able to produce much more sophisticated pop than they are given credit for.
Peaking at #11 on the UK Top 40, ‘Finer Feelings’ saw the Australian chanteuse questioning the merit of a relationship based solely on its physical benefits. Yup. Sex WAS on the menu but real emotion is at the crux of the song’s lyrics, and it’s that emotional resonance which makes ‘Finer Feelings’ one of Kylie’s most enduring songs of her 26 year long career.
